I love this verse. The amplified version explains the do not be afraid command as, [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] John 14:27 AMP
It’s true that we will face situations and people that make us feel afraid. But we choose our actions. We can either run from our fear, or refuse to be intimidated. We can choose to move forward despite being afraid.
This is where courage comes into play. We all feel fear. We face a new challenge (whether person, place or thing) and fear rises up pressuring us to back down. It’s often the fear of the unknown. The big what ifs. What if I lose? What if I fail? What if I make a fool of myself? Courage is going forward despite being afraid.
Let the positive what ifs play inside your head instead of the negatives. What if I WIN? What if I succeed? What if I inspire someone else to try?
And rememeber, you’re not going it alone. You’re not expected to know everything or have all the resources. But trust God. He’s promised to be with you every step of the way.
I pay a great deal of attention to gravity. If I push once and there is resistance I push just a little more. If there is a little give I keep pushing. No give an d I withdraw. It is simplistically but all I have are my natural instincts and prayer to understand the “how” and “where” of moving forward.

You are right. Seek God in prayer for the direction on where to go.
